Terminology Guide

An explanation of the terms and concepts used across the Ivernholl service, to help users understand the language of the platform before and during use.

The Ivernholl service uses a specific set of terms to describe its functions and the way information is handled. Understanding these terms makes it easier to navigate the platform and to formulate enquiries that the support team can address clearly. The definitions below reflect how each term is used within the Ivernholl context specifically, which may differ from how the same words are used in other technical or professional settings.

Classification The process by which the Ivernholl engine assesses incoming information and assigns it to an appropriate category within the platform's organisational structure. Classification is applied automatically but may be reviewed and adjusted through a formal request.
Category A defined grouping within the Ivernholl taxonomy. Each category represents a type or subject of information. Records assigned to a category can be browsed together and are related by their classification, not necessarily by their source or origin.
Record An individual unit of information within the platform. A record may be a document, a structured data entry, or a reference item, depending on the type of information it represents. Records retain their original form after classification; Ivernholl does not modify the content of records, only their organisational placement.
Taxonomy The overall structure of categories used by Ivernholl to organise information. The taxonomy defines how categories relate to one another hierarchically and how records are distributed within it. The taxonomy may vary depending on the access context and the type of information being organised.
Review environment The area within the Ivernholl interface where an individual record is displayed for reading or examination. The review environment presents the record alongside contextual information such as its classification, related records, and any associated annotations.
Relational link A connection surfaced by the platform between two or more records that share relevant characteristics, subject matter, or contextual relationships. Relational links appear within the review environment and allow users to move between connected records without returning to the top-level navigation.
Access context The specific scope of the platform that a user is permitted to access following their enquiry. Different access contexts may include different categories, record types, and functional areas. The access context is determined by the support team after reviewing the enquiry.
Enquiry A formal request submitted through the Ivernholl contact channel to request access to the service, ask a question about the platform, or seek support. Enquiries are reviewed individually by the team and are not processed automatically.
Annotation Supplementary notes or contextual information associated with a record within the review environment. Annotations are distinct from the original record content and are provided to assist with understanding the record's context or significance.
Navigation layer The interface element through which users move between categories and records within the platform. The navigation layer maintains a consistent structure regardless of the category being browsed, allowing users to develop familiarity with the interface that transfers across different areas of the platform.

Using this terminology when making an enquiry

When describing your requirements in an enquiry, using the terminology above helps the support team understand what you are looking for and respond more accurately. For example, specifying the type of record you are interested in, or the category you believe is relevant, allows the team to assess whether that access context is appropriate and what information is available within it.

If you are unsure which terms apply to your situation, you can describe your needs in plain language and the team will interpret the request accordingly. The terminology guide is provided for clarity, not as a requirement for submitting a valid enquiry.
